Jilin Province is rich in wetland resources. The total wetland area of the whole province is 1.728 million hectares, accounting for 9.2% of the total land area of the province. There are 4 categories and 16 types in total, which is one of the provinces with more wetland types in China. There are 8 national important wetlands in the province, and Xianghai wetland and Momoge wetland are rated as international important wetlands. 24 nature reserves and 26 wetland parks have been established in the whole province, and 48% of the natural wetlands have been effectively protected.

Wetland, known as the "kidney of the earth", is closely related to the survival, reproduction and development of human beings, and is a valuable resource for human beings. The theme of this year's World Wetlands Day is "wetlands: our future", which aims to explain the interdependent relationship between Wetlands and human beings, and advocate wetland protection, starting from the youth, and protecting wetlands will protect the beautiful future of mankind.

For many years, due to the drought and less rain in the west of Jilin Province, the cultivated land encroaches on the wetland, and the unreasonable development and utilization of the wetland, leading to the water resources shortage, function degradation and area reduction of the wetland. Jilin Province has strengthened the construction of wetland protection and restoration project, and effectively restored and protected the wetland through water diversion, returning farmland to humidity, ecological migration, etc., so as to alleviate the trend of wetland area shrinkage and function degradation in Jilin Province. Water diversion and moisturizing project has been carried out in the whole province. Ecological water supplement was carried out in Xianghai, Momoge, BOLUO lake, Da'an and other important wetlands to restore the degraded wetlands. In recent years, most of the years in the western part of Jilin Province are dry and lack of rain, and the wetland is short of water periodically.
